Did you let your dreams go away because somebody told you that you’re not qualified?
One of the dumbest excuses I’ve heard for not starting a business is “I have no qualification”. We’re all qualified to do something, and everything can be spun like a case study.
Do you need to be qualified?
I moved to New York City with nothing, just a list of 200 names that I built from LinkedIn and I had to cold email them to get my first chance at a job.
I had to work for free for a month in NYC and go into debt, but it was worth it because I gained the qualifications.
Perhaps, I didn’t have enough qualifications to become a director of marketing or business owner, but I had enough to at least get my foot in the door.
When I was first thinking about careers, I wanted to be an account manager at a digital agency in New York City, and in order to become this, I found out that:
- I needed to move to New York City.
- I needed to meet some other account managers or maybe some people who ran digital agencies.
- And I needed to make it happen.
So, if you think you have no qualifications right now, think about how you can get the ones you need to run your dream company or live your dream life.
Start thinking about your past experience and try to find there something similar to what you’re trying to do.
You DO have the qualifications; it’s just the framing that is wrong.
